| This 18th century Manor house which is also known as Casa Reymão, is owned by one of the old established families of North Portugal. In the 19th century the owner was a member of the Portuguese government and has been passed down from generation to generation. Casa de São João was restored by the granddaughter of the first owner giving it all the modern amenities of those times. This old restoration has been preserved giving the house great charm for those not wanting the lifestyle of a previous age before en-suite bathrooms etc. Like most houses in the area, it is built with solid granite walls. This creates a pleasant temperature all year round provided that the Portuguese system of not opening windows in the heat of the day etc. is used. The house is alongside a lane and has walls around the extensive gardens which give total privacy. On the upper floor of the house there is a master twin bedded room with an en suite bathroom. There are also two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom sharing a bathroom. One of the bedrooms has a balcony with spectacular views to the property and to the nearby town of Viana do Castelo. On the lower floor, next to the kitchen, there is a smaller twin bedroom with private shower room, which was formerly for the maids use. The furniture of the house is very traditional in old Portuguese style. One of the most famous restaurants in the region is less than one hundred meters away and specialises in the traditional regional dishes. The gardens around the house are about 1 acre with lawns, fruit trees and vineyards. There is a private swimming pool for the clients in the garden with 10 x 5 meters and the maximum depth reaching 1.60 meters. The house is in a small village of Santa Marta de Portuzelo near Viana do Castelo. The area has rural and unspoilt landscapes with many opportunities for cultural visits and sightseeing. The Atlantic beaches of Afife, Carreco and Cabedelo are about 15 minutes by car. The recently construed main highways enable fast access to interesting and historic towns like Ponte de Lima, Braga, Guimaraes and Porto. Ponte de Lima golf course is 25 kms away giving high quality golf with magnificent scenery. |
