| The Paço d'Anha manor farm lies at the highlands of Vila Nova de Anha parish, 3 Km south of Viana do Castelo, a town in the Minho region, the extreme Northwest of Portugal. It is a very beautiful part of the country making the transition from the typical Mediterranean South to the Atlantic climates of the North. During summer the weather is, usually, very pleasant and the winter is moderate. The Minho region spreads from the North coast, with nice and quiet beaches, towards the interior mountains including Natural Parks as Parque Natural da Peneda-Gerês or Serra do Lindoso. The landscape combines agricultural areas of pastures and cereal fields surrounded by vineyards with forests and is crossed by several rivers or multiple fresh water streams. A modern net of roads links the towns in the area making easy the access to their shops from which we outline the several jewellers and handicrafted decorative arts. Some of their many restaurants are really worth to try, especially the seafood. This is the most appropriate dish to accompany with Vinho Verde. It is also recommended a visit to their Cafés and Pastelarias to taste the famous pastry and sweets of the Minho region or to just spend some time joining the local gossip. Paço d?Anha farm may be easily accessed, as it is located at a 30 minutes driving distance from Porto airport, the second largest city in Portugal. It is a high densely populated area full of small villages and towns, many of them being old historical sites with charming architectural works of art. It is a well known region for its rich popular art: music and dances, pottery, embrodery and other handicrafted arts. Its typical gastronomy is famous as well as the Vinho Verde, a fresh and fruit tasted excellent wine produced all over this region. The Paço d?Anha farm has an area of 50 hectars encircled with old stone walls allowing a most peaceful and private environment. From the estate, a delightful sight of the village and the sea may be enjoyed, as it stands 3 Km away from the Atlantic Ocean. The name Paço (House of the King) comes from the fact that here was refugied, in 1580, the King of Portugal, D. António, after his defeat in the figths for independence against the powerful Philip II of Spain. The manor Chapel, patronised by Santo António, was built in 1625 and keeps the original altar from the XVII th century following a style of italian influence |
